Becoming A First Aid Trainer: Hear From Our Trainers

What does a St John trainer do?

St John Trainers deliver courses in first aid, healthcare, and mental health, according to their particular areas of expertise and industry experience.

Our Trainers conduct classes at locations across Victoria; including fully equipped St John public venues, and workplaces where we provide onsite training for staff.  We deliver a variety of courses, from 2.5 hour courses in CPR to 6- month healthcare qualifications.

Our trainers participate in regular professional development activities and are assisted to maintain current vocational competency and industry skills.

What does it take to become a Trainer?

Our team of trainers bring a range of life experiences to their roles.  Successful applicants will:

  • demonstrate excellent communication skills and a passion for community education
  • have experience in a related field such as first aid, healthcare, emergency response, military, occupational health and safety, childcare, sports training, mental health or social work
  • TAE40116 Certificate IV Training and Assessment or be working towards the qualification

Experience in delivering accredited training is not essential.  New trainers participate in a comprehensive onboarding program with a high level of support from our Training Team Leaders.

I don’t have training qualifications? Can I still become a Trainer with St John?

St John offers a pathway for those who aspire to become Trainers but don’t yet have the necessary qualifications.  You can begin your training journey  by delivering community education programs and gaining valuable experience.  If you  want to continue your career and become a Trainer, you can work with St John as you study for your training and assessment qualification.
