In-Home Care: Gagan’s Story with Seniors Community Care
When Gagan moved from New Zealand to Australia in 2023, she wasn’t sure what the next chapter would look like. After five years away from work, she was ready to rebuild her career while supporting her family.
“I hadn’t worked since COVID,” she says. “Then Seniors gave me an opportunity to try my skills again.”
Starting as a Schedule Coordinator with Seniors Community Care, Gagan brought with her years of experience in community services, including working with people living with dementia. It didn’t take long for her dedication to shine through.
“I was making a few mistakes here and there, but learning from them,” she says. “I wasn’t repeating the same thing.”
With her overseas qualifications recognised and her passion for helping others clear, Gagan stepped into a Case Manager role. Today, she supports older Victorians to live safely and independently in their own homes.
What Seniors Community Care looks like
For many clients, navigating government-funded care can feel overwhelming. That’s where Gagan and the team step in.
“We basically look after everything,” she explains.
From organising personal care and nursing support to arranging equipment, managing budgets and checking home safety, Gagan ensures her clients receive the right support at the right time.
“While they’re staying at home, it’s our responsibility to provide the services they need without disruption,” she says.
Her role also takes her out into the community, visiting clients in their homes and sometimes even in hospital, helping build trust and connection.
“I try to visit them, so they know who I am,” she says. “Sometimes, that face-to-face connection makes all the difference.”
The power of empathy
While the role is rewarding, it can also be challenging. Gagan says empathy and patience are essential.
“Sometimes people just want someone who will listen and understand,” she says. “You need a lot of empathy, especially when someone is unwell or doesn’t have family support.”
For some clients, their Case Manager may be one of the few people they regularly speak to.
“In those moments, you realise how important it is just to be there,” Gagan adds.
A meaningful career and a busy life
Outside of work, Gagan is a busy mum of three. Life at home is full, but she wouldn’t have it any other way.
“There’s stuff everywhere in the house all the time,” she laughs.
For Gagan, working at Seniors Community Care is more than just a job; it’s about making a real difference in people’s lives.
“I just do my job,” she says simply. But through her care, compassion and commitment, she is helping older Victorians live with dignity, independence and support every day.
